The Woman and the Fat Hen

A woman owned a hen that laid an egg every morning. Since the hen’s eggs were of excellent quality, they sold for a good price. So, at one point, the woman thought to herself, “If I double my hen’s allowance of barley, she’ll lay twice a day.” Therefore, she put her plan to work, and the hen become so fat and contented that it stopped laying altogether.

Relying on statistics does not always produce results.

译文：

妇人和母鸡

一位妇人有一只母鸡，每天早上下一个蛋。由于这只母鸡的蛋质量很好，所以卖得很好。所以，在某一时刻，这个妇人心里想:“如果我给母鸡双倍的大麦，她就会一天下两次蛋。”于是，她将计划付诸行动，那只母鸡变得如此的胖和满足，就干脆再也不下蛋了。
