Reflection on Great Wall of China
Introduction
In writing about Great Wall of China, there are some literary techniques for me to apply to analyze my writing quality. The best technique can be persuasive technique. The persuasive technique has been adaptable for the introduction of Great Wall. At the same time, the persuasive technique can make the introduction more reliable, credible, practical, influential. Compared with other literary techniques, persuasive technique can be sharp, direct, and objective. The other techniques can be rhetoric technique, and dramatic technique. In this reflection, I would like to analyze the article Great Wall of China.
Main Body
Persuasive technique
First, the persuasive technique can be the best technique. In the first level, the article has used statistics to reflect the accurate condition of the Great Wall in China. “The Great Wall was mainly established in from the 14th century.” The early century has been pointed out so that people can understand the origin. “It went west to Jiayuguan, east to the tiger to the Great Wall and included, the Great Wall runs across Beijing, Tianjin, Qinghai, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia and 15 provinces and autonomous regions other a total of 43721 km.” The length, and range of the Great Wall has been pointed out, such as the name of the province, or the number of the provinces, the regions’ total length. These statistics can make the article objective, and reliable, credible, concrete, and accountable for people to imagine or make assumption (Walling, 2009). In the second level, the article has used scientific and authoritative approach to persuade people. “The archaeologists have used C14 to detect about the repair time of the Great Wall in different sections. Radiocarbon Dating has utilized C14’s decaying process to detect the proportion between oxygen and carbon inside the building materials.” The method of C14 detection can have long history and mature detection approach. The extensive use can make the archaeology’s evidence real, and practical, close to truth. The chemical analysis procedure should follow official steps, and can not be overlooked. In the third level, the political, public governmental or organizations have been used to persuade people about the value of Great Wall in China. “ In 1987, the United Nations educational, scientific and cultural organization or UNESCO’s listed the Great Wall as world heritage. ” UNESCO has always been dedicated to cultural heritage protection, and performance evaluation. It would use the lists to record some world famous architecture to preserve civil progress evidence. When UNESCO is talked out, the credibility can increase. Because the UNESCO’s notice or measurments’ social influence can be huge and incomparable. In my opinion, the introduction should first and foremost tell people about the true condition of the Great Wall in basis. When people do not understand the condition accurately, they can not really show critical judgments or attitudes, criticism towards the Great Wall. Thus, the primary step should be the persuasive technique utilization, which can help people to believe the reliability of the article because of the detailed information display.
Rhetoric technique
Second, the rhetoric technique can be the 2nd best technique. In the first level, the compare and contrast has been used. The Great Wall’s previous condition, and recent condition have been compared, so that the functions’ variation can be identified. Without compare and contrast, people would not know that Great Wall once was used for fortification, and there were some mistakes such as construction bloody murder, or political pressure. Only through the compare and contrast can people understand the current preciousness of Great Wall tourism, and remember about the historical humiliation or inequality, so that the cultural meaning inside Great Wall can be revealed. In the second level, the parallelism has been used to increase the infectious illustration, and to produce an atmosphere of power, strength, brilliance (Bowkett, 2009). “When tourists visit Great Wall, they can learn Chinese history, and culture, such as Qin Shihuang’s political highlights, or Tang Dynasty’s glory, or racial introspection between the Chinese emperor and the North West races” The sentence has made parallelism when mentioning about the function of Great Wall. The Qin Shihuang’s political highlights, and Tang Dynasty’s glory, minority race emperor trend have been put together. Thus, when people read the article, they can be reminded of all the memories in historical tradition, and would have a sense of fulfillment or belonging. The spiritual attachment with Great Wall can increase.
Dramatic technique
Third, the dramatic technique can be the third best technique. There are many stories which have vividly described the Great Wall’s social indication. “Qin Dynasty, the emperor put Great Wall as one critical engineering project and formed systematic bounder management with extension and improvement.” The story of Qin Dynasty has exposed Great Wall to military enforcement protection. "MENG JIANG NU cries the Great Wall." The story has told about the cruel moment of construction engineer, and warns people about the necessity in sacrificing themselves for historical progress and civilization modernization. “Yearly, the emperor and his generals would land on the Great Wall or practice army force, to show the nation power, and to maintain sustainable relationship with the minorities.” The story has talked about the political influence of Great Wall. These stories can show examples individually and practically. Instead of reasoning or putting Great Wall’s function into some doctrine, the examples can be free and flexible for people to think about Great Wall’s implication with regards to their own personal experience (Boswell, Foucher, 2011). At the same time, Meng Jiang Nv’s story has been impressive, and aggressive, the conflicts have been focused so that, people can realize the hardship in Great Wall construction, and the sustainable development. Furthermore, the dramatic technique can add a sense of myth.
Conclusion
The persuasive techniques, rhetoric techniques, and dramatic techniques have been applied in the article. However, other techniques can also be very practical, and infectious, but the poetry technique may not be useful in introduction,because it is personal and sensational.
