Science News for Students: Plastic taints most bottled water, study finds

A new study found that tiny plastic bits contaminate most bottled water, and researchers discovered that they are called microplastic fibers, which are “small enough to be transported through our bodies and end up in our organs”. The sources of this kind of plastic pollution comes from bodies of water which microplastics travel down though drains. Bottled water companies use these kind of water with chemicals that may harm our bodies. Also, scientists used the dyeing method to test the amount plastic bits in the water, which they predict that the bits come from bottle caps. Still, researchers are worried about more plastic is turning up in the environment, and suggests people to use less plastic products.
