Winning medals is inspirational. Great Britain won 67 medals at this year's Olympic Games in Rio and 147 at the Paralympics. Many medal winners said they were inspired by the athletes of pervious generations. Inspiration fed their aspiration and let them discover the abilities they scarecely knew before. They are now inspiring others.
Saving lives is inspirational. Queen opened the new cambridge base of the East Anglian Air mbulance a few months ago, where Prince William works as a helicopter pilot. Every day highly skilled doctors, paramedics and crew would be called out on average five times in order to save lives.
But to be inspirational you don't have to win medals or save lives. Ordinary people can do extraordinary things. Volunteers, carers, community organizers, good neighbours are all unsung heros whose quiet dedication makes them special and their lives frequently embody a truth expressed by Mother Teresa, " Not all of us can do great things. But we can do samll things with great love."
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award , The Prince's Award as well as 600 volunteers from charity organizations to mark her 90th birthday, they all started as small initiatives but have grown with great influences.
It is understandble that the world's problems are so big that we can do little to help, and on our own, we can not end war or wipe out injustices, but the accumulative impact of samll acts of goodness can be bigger than we imagine. Like Jesus, he lived obscurely and humbly for most of his lives, and often was maligned and rejected even though he had done nothing wrong. But his love and spirit has transformed billions of people's lives, who follow his teaching and find in him the guiding light for their life.
Love begins small but always grows. We should cheish and appreciate the value of doing samll things with great love.
