Lesson 25-2 The Cutty Sark
In August, she was struck by a very heavy storm during which her rudder was torn away. The Cutty Sark rolled from side to side and it became impossible to steer her. A temporary rudder was made on board from spare planks and it was fitted with great difficulty. This greatly reduced the speed of the ship, for there was a danger that if she traveled too quickly, this rudder would be torn away as well. Because of this, the Cutty Sark lost her lead. After crossing the Equator, the captain called in at a port to have a new rudder fitted, but by now the Thermopylae was over five hundred miles ahead. Though the new rudder was fitted at tremendous speed, it was impossible for the Cutty Sark to win. She arrived in England a week after the Thermopylae. Even this was remarkable, considering that she had had so many delays. There is no doubt that if she had not lost her rudder she would have won the race easily.

连读第三大技巧 爆破的四大规律
1.失去爆破
当词尾爆破音（ [ P ] [ b ] [ k ] [ t ] [ d ] [ ɡ ] ）遇到词首爆破音时前一个爆破音完全不读
eg. Take care te（k） kз:r 因为take最后是以k 结尾，而care是以k开头如果两个k都发出来的话读起来会非常的刻意，所以聪明的人就把前面一个k音给省略了，这样读起来就会更顺口。
2.不完全爆破
所谓不完全爆破就是对于需要爆破的音我们仅仅摆出它的唇形舌位但是不发出声音就是不吐气。这里又分两类情况。
1） 词尾爆破音+摩擦音（ [ f ] [ s ] [ θ ] [ v ] [ z ] [ ð ] [r] [j] [w] [∫] [З]）
eg. I‘m almost there Ɔ:lmos（t） ðзr
What would you advise me to do wɒ（t） wƱd
2） 词尾爆破音+破擦音（[tr] [dr] [ts] [dz] [t∫] [dЗ]）
eg. That joke ðæ（t) dЗok
3.鼻腔爆破
同一意群内，爆破音在鼻音（[m] [n] [ŋ]）前，则爆破音省略以停顿代替
eg. Good night gƱ（d） nait

4.舌边爆破 爆破音+舌边音[l]
eg.It's deadly dз:(d)li
old lady Ɔ:l(d) ledi
