Underground works

PE100 SDR17: PE100 is a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) material that is used for pressure pipes. SDR17 refers to the Standard Dimensional Ratio of the pipe, which is the ratio of the nominal outside diameter to the nominal wall thickness 1. The higher the SDR number, the thinner the wall thickness of the pipe. PE100 SDR17 pipes are known for their toughness, high permissible design strength, and improved resistance to rapid crack propagation 23.

uPVC: uPVC stands for unplasticized polyvinyl chloride. It is a rigid, non-toxic, and chemically resistant material that is used for pressure pipes, sewer pipes, and electrical conduits 4. uPVC pipes are lightweight, easy to install, and have a long service life . They are also resistant to corrosion, abrasion, and chemicals.

Concrete pipes: Concrete pipes are made of cement, sand, and aggregate materials. They are used for drainage, sewerage, and culvert applications. Concrete pipes are known for their strength, durability, and resistance to fire and corrosion. They are also resistant to root penetration and have a long service life.

Before digging, it is important to know the location of underground utilities such as water pipes, gas lines, and electrical cables to avoid damaging them. In New Zealand, you can use the beforeUdig service to obtain information on the location of cables, pipes, and other utility assets in and around any proposed dig site 12. You can also call 811 or visit their website to request that the approximate location of buried utilities be marked with paint or flags so that you don’t unintentionally dig into an underground utility line 3
