Do you know about unicorns? Maybe you have heard about it, especially more often in recent years, but not knowing what it is exactly and where it has come from. Actually, unicorns are derived from western culture, they are fantasy creatures, like Big Foot，Loch Ness Monster. According to traditional stories, unicorns are white horses with a long spiral horn coming out of its head.
A long time ago, people were enchanted and believed in something unreal with magic power. For example, they believed drinking out of unicorn horn cups can help cure illnesses and protect them from being poisoned.
People at that time thought unicorns were strong and powerful, with magic force. They treated unicorn horns as panacea, helping them recover when they got sick and fight against garden poisoning.
There is even a special branch of learning named cryptozoology studying all these legendary animals.

Now, we know that these animals didn't exist, and they were just imaginary creatures, only appeared in folk stories.
But we modern people still hope that there was something like unicorns existing somewhere. As they are potent and have magic power, so they might help us deal with pressing matters and achieve feats. That is what we are dreaming of.

To some extent, unicorns have become a cultural symbol.
On the one hand, it means magic power, and everyone is eager to get. They are on T-shirts and in movies and cartoons, and they represent the highest power in the place.
On the other hand, as unicorns are not real in life that it refers to unrealistic plans or ideas, which are very hard to achieve, in political context at the momen, in particular. For instance, in the UK, the most pressing issue now is Brxit, but the Parliament can’t reach an agreement. Each side says the other side has a special unicorn, which is a negative comment under the circumstances. As we all know there is no panacea on the planet.

In China, unicorns have other meaning. Here, it refers to those giant digital companies, like Alibaba, Tencent, etc. They are big, potent and powerful, with the advanced technology at hand, as a result, it seems that it can change the world and life styles of the folks.
Indeed, these companies have more power than normal companies, however they are not panacea either. Also there should have some restrains in their capabilities to collect and deploy personal data. Society responsibility should be introduced in these companies as soon as possible, before they have grown too big to control. Devil or angel, just changing the face in a second.
