前两天发了一个说说，内容是想表达，标点符号对文章和读者的影响，没想到小答应今天来问了一个问题。
看到他狡诈的笑容，我就知道他挖好了坑，准备让我跳。
他：“Carson，有两个形容词要修饰同一个名词，中间用and来接，对吗？”
我：“对！”
他：“如果有三个形容词的话，就第一个和第二个用逗号，第二和第三用and连接，对吗？”
我：“对！”
小答应马上翻出一本外文教学书，指这一句话，你看看。
If you have the opportunity to drive through the gentel, rolling hills admist lush farmlands, perhaps you will see a horse....
马上问：“为什么这句话的两个形容词gentle和rolling没有用and来连接，而是用逗号？？？”
我：。。。。。。
这个问题让我联想到，在Joseph M. Williams 的 Style: Lessons in Clairity and Grace 里面也提到过四种标点符号的特例。
我们来看看其中的第二种：
If you want your readers to feel the cumulative power of a coordinated pair (or more), drop the AND and leave just a comma.
我粗暴翻译一下，如果你想你的读者感受到连贯的张力,俗称“啪啪啪”，不写and，用逗号来连接。
接着，书本给出了一个例子：
Lincoln never had a formal education and never owned a large library.
Lincoln never had a formal education, never owned a large library.
这两个句子都是对的。
现在让我们回过头来看，小答应的句子:
If you have the opportunity to drive through the gentel, rolling hills admist lush farmlands, perhaps you will see a horse....
按照刚刚的说法， gentel 用逗号连接 rolling，会更有画面感，静谧又连绵不断的山丘。
