I wish more people knew that African forest elephants are now critically endangered mainly because of poaching, in hope to save the elephants. The number of forest elephants fell by more than 86% during the past three decades. In addition, the number of savanna elephants fell by at least 60% over the past 50 years. Poaching for ivory remained a "significant driver" of the decline. Please stop poaching. I wish more people knew that they are smart and gentle giants, and they are our friends. They play a vital role in the ecosystems.
Do you know why elephants are being poached?
Elephants are being poached mainly because of the ivory trade. It’s very cruel that elephants are killed just for a tiny piece of their body. What people don’t realize however is that elephant tusks serve many purposes. These extended teeth can be used to protect the elephant's trunk, lift objects, gather food, and strip bark from trees. They can also be used for defense. In the dry season when watering holes are scarce, if an elephant heads down an elephant trail, and they dig deep enough, they will find a small amount of water which is enough to last them for a few days. If you take their “shovel” away, they will have a hard time surviving.
Hi People, Wake Up! Can’t we use other natural resources to make jewelry? How about coal, diamonds, iron, gold, silver etc.?
I wish more people knew that Humans are the only real predators of elephants, in hopes to stop poaching.
Elephants are exceptionally smart creatures.
When we poach elephants, they no longer trust us. Why should they? You ruined their home and killed many of their kin. However, if we save them and bond with them, we can see for ourselves how special these animals really are and begin the first steps to regain that trust. For instance, elephants are probably the smartest animals on Earth! They remembered the locations of water holes hundreds of kilometers apart, returning to them year after year. That is something special that no other animal could have. They will come out and show you the newborn calves and the different personalities in the herd after you show to them that you are not threaten. I wish more people knew how intelligent elephants are, in hopes to stop poaching.
Lastly, we are somehow connected with elephants as they have humanity as well.
Elephants share so many of the characteristics that we think make us human. They feel empathy, they grieve the loss of a family member, they live in family groups, they are playful, they have long memories. Elephant’s social structure is complicated just like ours. They have elders and children like us. The matriarch or the oldest female is the leader, and the rest of the herd are her daughters and sisters and grand-daughters and great granddaughters, well, you get the point. When one elephant is a mother. The rest of the herd are “nannies”. They all help take care of the calves. Humanity is what makes us humans however did you know most of our humanity traits are common with the rest of the animal world? We, ourselves are related to animals! We could have been great friends with elephants. I wish more people knew they are part of the ecosystem, and we share one planet, in hopes to stop poaching.
We don’t want the elephant to be extinct like their distant cousins, the Woolly Mammoth, because of poaching. We want these majestic beasts to stay on the planet as they are truly magnificent. You will never know what they can return to us.
I say this for the elephants, please stop poaching.
