Book Two Unit Seventy-seven

The mummy of a Egyptian woman who died in 800 B.C. has just had an operation. The mummy is that of Shepenmut who was once a singer in the temple of Thebes. Doctors had to perform an operation on the mummy as the X-ray plates revealed some strange marks on her. The operation was, however, not progressing smoothly. The doctors took over four hours to carry it out because of the hard resin which covered the skin. They
removed a section of the mummy and sent it to a laboratory. The operation also
showed that a small wax figure of the god Dumatef characterized by the head of a cow was placed inside the mummy. The doctors have not yet been able to find an answer to the death of the woman. They thought the operation would damage the mummy. As it
was, the mummy successfully survived it.
