前面章节所说的风格、结构、意图都是大的决定。这篇章节讲小的决定，文章的架构。Zinsser提到组织好文章结构的重要性等同于写清晰、令人愉悦的句子。一篇文章要简洁有序，逻辑清晰还有叙述技巧。
万事开头难，写作亦是如此。一个（挑逗）让人欲罢不能的开头可以抓住读者持续不断地看下去。开头可长可短.Zinsser还提到不要害怕把长句变为两个或三个短句，每个句子只可以包含一个想法思想。行文中可以增加耳熟能详的传说故事。
好的文章不会是平淡无奇的，文章中要体现作者的个性与声音。
