《whose mouse are you?》By Robert Kraus, pictures by Jose Aruego.
I told the story for my son and my daughter. They all knew a mouse called Mickey. They all knew a mouse called Jerry. I was wondering how I introduced this “ugly” mouse to the kids. I led them to read the first page.
“How does the mouse look like?” I asked.
“Two big ears.” “ small eyes.” “Long nose.” ( I think it was a pointed nose)
“What color is it?”
“ grey. She looks like an elephant!” Shouted Libby. “ she is ugly!” Libby added.
“ And she has a long tail as well. she does not look pretty, but she is very dependent and very brave! Let’s read the story and find out.” Then we started to read the story.
About the story
Whose mouse are you?
Nobody’s mouse. “ she looks sad...” I said.
Where is your mother? Inside the cat.
“ ooh!” Libby cried. I think that shocked Libby a lot. She felt sympathy with the ugly mouse immediately.
Where is your father? Caught in a trap.
Where is your sister? Far from home.
Where is your brother? I have none.
What will you do?
( from the moment on, the ugly mouse change into a brave mouse. She will heroically rescue her family. )
The mouse have a family now.she has mother, father, sister and a new brother. She fell very happy! So did Libby.
The story showed us the little mouse feeling unloved at the beginning, but at the end, she felt beloved. It’s really worth to read again. I would give all my love to my children! They will never feel unloved.
