方式/结果状语从句在写作中的使用

在句中作方式状语的从句叫方式状语从句，方式状语从句在句中修饰动词。在写作中通常使用由as, (just) as…so…, as if, as though引导的方式状语从句，as…so…结构中位于句首，这时as从句带有比喻的含义，意思是"正如…"，"就像"，多用于正式文体，例如：As water is to fish, so air is to man. 我们离不开空气，犹如鱼儿离不开水。

As if与 as though 两者的意义和用法相同。在写作中要注意其后引导状语从句的时态选择问题，当引出的状语从句表示与事实相反，谓语多用虚拟语气形式。例如：He looks as if he were ill. 当表示所说情况是事实或实现的可能性较大时用陈述语气。汉译常作"仿佛……似的"，"好像……似的"，例如：It looks as if it is going to rain.

例如：2011年12月大学英语四级（CET4）考试作文题目为Nothing succeeds without a strong will，在开篇部分说that the determination of most youngsters is oftentimes started with enthusiasm（大多数年轻人开始做事的决心和热情很大），紧接着话锋一转说but the passion becomes increasingly weaker each day, and then diminishes as if there has been no such thing at all. （但是热情会渐渐消退，直至消失，仿佛不曾有过），在这里as if 引导的方式状语从句很贴切地描写了年轻人做事的决心与热情来的快也去的快，推进了下一段对文章主题“没有坚强的意志，做什么都不会成功”的论述。

结果状语从句在写作中最常由so… that或 such…that引导，such 是形容词，修饰名词或名词词组，so 是副词，只能修饰形容词或副词。 so 还可与表示数量的形容词many, few, much, little连用，形成固定搭配。

写作中掌握如下两个句型，such+a+形容词+名词=so+形容词+a\an+名词

例如：so foolish=such a fool，so nice a flower=such a nice flower，so many / few flowers=such nice flowers，so many people=such a lot of people，so many 已成固定搭配，a lot of 虽相当于 many，但 a lot of 为名词性的，只能用such搭配。

例如：2004年6月大学英语六级（CET6）作文要求设想你买了一本英文词典，发现有这样那样的质量问题，书店的服务态度又不好，因此给报社编辑写信反映问题，在描述词典的质量问题时用了结果状语从句There was such damage and misprint to the dictionary that I went to the bookstore to require for a replace.在这里结果状语从句有效地表明了因词典的质量问题所导致的一个结果（I went to the bookstore to require for a replace.）。

（3）Perhaps those who have been rendered unhappy by a bad theory may need a better theory to help them to recovery, just as you may need a tonic when you have been ill. 

（4）Spend time offering assistance to those who are less fortunate than you, so that you may gain perspective.

（5）Your natural aptitudes were nurtured so that, in addition to excelling in all your subjects, you developed a number of specific interests that you cultivated with particular vigor.
