Today is Friday.
The girl said it was nonsense. And Pippi said that was just what the man had said. The man said it was perfectly plain that the child could eat the swallows' nest if he would only stop being so stubborn. But Peter kept his mouth shut tight from May to October. Tommy asked how he could live. Pippi told him that he couldn't live and he had died. Then she looked at the girl in the road and asked her why she looked so funny. Pippi asked her if she didn't believe what she had said, rolling up her sleeves. The little girl answered terrified that she believed what Pippi had said. But Pippi told her that actually it was a lie, because someone might live without food for three or four months, but no one could live without food from May to October. She told the girl that she shouldn't let people fool her like that. Then the girl left without turning around again. Pippi said to Tommy and Annika that people would believe anything but it was ridiculous form May to October. Then she called after the girl that they hadn't seen her papa and they hadn't seen a bald-headed person all day, but seventeen of them had gone by arm in arm the day before that day.
