Painting | Edvard Munch

One day, I came across one painting of Edvard Munch, and I fell in love with it. After that moment, I started to search the life of Munch and get to know his painting.

Due to his childhood, which was filled with death, depression, darkness and lonely because of the death of his mother and sisters, the theme of his painting is targeted to express those hard feelings in his heart, and those screams buried in his mind as well.

Every time I watch Munch's painting, I feel the time is frozen because of the coldness and stillness appeared on the painting, and I need to stop and slow down my heartbeat so as to catch the expression that Munch wanted to show.

I always thought we are all equal in front of the Art. To appreciate Art, it is not a matter of money or any material related thing, it is a resonance of the mind and a touch on the heart. These are the exact feelings when I saw Munch's painting at the first time. As I stare at the painting for a long enough time, the peacefulness within my heart will dilute the sickness at the first minute I see them.

I thought this is magic towards Art. No scheduled time, no introduction in advance and no effort on the encounter, I just caught a glimpse of  Munch's painting and I fell in love with it. If I have to point out what the feeling likes, it should be the same feeling that I think I see my soul mate.

I always remind myself to be humble and respectful in front of Art, as my attitude will lead me to discover the Art that can have an influence on me.

I like Vincent Van Gogh without doubt, but now, I would say I like Edvard Munch as well. I don't know if I will like some other painters in the future, but at least at this moment, they are my motivation  and inspiration towards Art.

Edvard Munch

"Painting picture by picture, I followed the impressions my eye took in at heightened moments. I painted only memories, adding nothing, no details that I did not see. Hence the simplicity of the paintings, their emptiness.”

- Edvard Munch

《Melancholy》Edvard Munch · 1892

This is the painting that I fell in love with at the first moment I saw it.

The man after the angle, when I saw the look on his face, the dismissive eyes, the thoughts under his black hair, I can assume that he was reluctant to accept any fact happened in his surroundings, and he needed to swallow all the reluctance by himself.

Lonely but unafraid.
