I relate this reading to my daily upbringing of my two-year old son. At this stage, he has his own thoughts and desire to show himself. He doesn’t feel happy when he is deprived of ability to touch, feel or experience himself while you thought this might do good to him, protecting him from danger or injury. For example, My mother-in-law always stays alert when my child climbs the stairs or chairs because she is worried that he might fall down or injure himself, but ignoring that he is actually strong enough to stand on his own feet and feel good about himself by pushing his boundary. After reading this chapter, I realize that genuine happiness derives from encountering problems and solving them. If we are being too overprotective, chances are they will end up being timid.
In our life time, we cannot avoid or escape problems, so does a child. We should encourage our children to face up challenges and solve them on their own starting from their early age. Children will be more confident and much happier by keeping trying and repeating and ultimate achieve their success. Only in this way, can they achieve true happiness.
