一. 感想

关于体育类文章的写作,Zinsser提到了以下观点:

What gives the article its depth is that it's the work of a writer, not a sportswriter.

If you want to write about sports, remember that the men and women you're writing about are doing something immensely difficult, and they have their pride. You, too, are doing a job that has its codes of honor.

Observe closely. Interview in depth. Listen to old-timers. Ponder the changes. Write well.

体育类题材的写作,固然有其特性,这是行业本身所决定的。例如绝大多数的运动员需要童子功,从小就要经受比同龄人艰苦得多的训练生活。开始职业生涯后,也将面临巨大的挑战。

记得我当时看网球冠军李娜的自传《独自上场》时,就对她从小学球的经历,以及比赛时所承受的精神压力和伤病折磨印象极其深刻。

而且,体育赛事本身又具有对抗性强、竞争激烈、关注度高等特性。所以突出其特质,就成了体育写作的重点。

除此以外,更多的是写作本身的共性。如何令文章更有深度,作品更吸引人等,是无论我们写任何类型的文章,都需要考虑的问题。


二. 字词

1. addict

(1) 原文:As an addict of the sports pages in my boyhood, I learned about the circuit clout before I learned about the electrical circuit.

(2) 字典解释:someone who is very interested in something and spends a lot of doing it

(3) 造句:As an addict of music I often go to the concert.

2. lanky & chunky

(1) 原文:Southpaws were always lanky, portsiders always chunky, though I've never heard "chunky" applied to anything else except peanut butter (to distinguish it from "creamy"), and I have no idea what a chunky person would look like.

(2) 字典解释:

lanky: someone who is lanky is tall and thin, and moves awkwardly

chunky: someone who is chunky has a broad, heavy body

(3) 造句:Have you seen the animation "No-brain and Unhappiness"? No-brain is lanky and Unhappiness is chunky.

3. snuff out

(1) 原文:If not, he might bounce into a twin killing, snuffing out a rally and dimming his team’s hopes in the flag scramble.

(2) 字典解释:to stop or end something in a sudden way    扼杀

(3) 造句:Bad education snuffs out children's imagination.

4. picturesque

(1) 原文:Shouldn’t we be grateful for a word so picturesque?

(2) 字典解释:unusual, interesting, or sometimes rude words to describe something

(3) 造句:I really like this book, because the words in it is so picturesque.

5. novelty

(1) 原文:I like to think he allowed himself the small smile that is the due of anyone who invents a good novelty.

(2) 字典解释:something new and unusual which attracts people's attention and interest

(3) 造句:Nowadays seeing people reading on the train is a novelty.

6. old-timers

(1) 原文:Listen to old-timers.

(2) 字典解释:someone who has been doing a job or living in a place for a long time and knows a lot about it    老前辈

(3) 造句:We need to learn from old-timers.
