Narrative of material is the essence of art, as artists’ thoughts and emotions imbedded in materials which create different realities reflecting but beyond the reality we live in. Through the narrative, illusion happens, therefore, imaginations of both artists and audiences arrive.

There are endless materials, so as the narratives. Unique play in the materials is character of an artwork. This is individualism, it challenges art politics – tradition and control. When material has its own narrative, it departs from tradition - a collective agreement; it liberates from control –a deal between power and any ideal. So that the narrative of material is fundamentally about freedom.

The use of ink and rice paper is just another way of the narrative, as long as it is not a confirmation to traditional practices; as long it is individual endeavours. However, it has its symbolism of cultural belonging and cultural diversity. Now here today, this exhibition and the artists are ongoing contributions to the ever open situation in contemporary art.
