brainstorm:头脑风暴

to have a discussion to suggest lots of ideas for an activity or for solving a problem.

Eg:

We need to start brainstorming solutions to the problems right now!

Let’s brainstorm some ideas for the new campaign.

Review:

To look at or examine something carefully, especially before making a decision.

Eg:

I think we need more time to review the situation.

Robert, have you already reviewed the new IT security  guidelines?

Identify:

To recognize something or discover exactly what it is

Eg:

Have we identified the cause of the problem?

We’re very excited because we’ve identified a gap in the market.

[tip: a gap in the market is a product or service that does’t exist, so there’s an opportunity to develop that product or service and sell it.]

Implement:实施

To start using a system or plan

Eg:

I think we should implement flexitime to help our staff with their work-life balance.

We need to implement a new IT system as soon as possible.

Analyse: 分析

To study or examine something in detail, to find out more about it.

Eg:

We analyzed the results of the survey and found that most of our customers are satisfied with our products.

The new software will help us to analyse market data.

Approach:处理

To deal with something

Eg:

We need to find a different way of approaching this problem.

Jack, do you have a suggestion on how we can approach this situation?

Go round(the table):询问所有与会者对某件事的意见或想法

To ask all the meeting participants for their opinions or ideas about something.

Eg:

Let me just go round the table and get everyone’s opinion on this.我先去问问大家的意见。

Can we go round the table and take a vote?我们能绕着桌子投票吗?

finalise: 完成计划、安排或商业交易的最后一部分

To finish the last part of a plan, arrangement or business deal.

Eg:

Will we be able to finalise the deal this week?

Maria, can you please finalise the arrangement for our trip to Mumbai?

Fill in for somebody:填充某人,代替某人

To do another person’s job for a short period of time because they are not there or are unable to do it.

Eg:

Susan is on holiday this week, so I’m filling in for her.

The boss asked me to fill in for him next week, because he has to go to an important conference.

Look into something:调查了一些事情

To try to find out more information or facts about something

Eg:

The customer did’t accept our new offer. We’re not sure why, so the boss has asked me to look into it.

I’m very sorry about the delay. I’ll look into it immediately and get back to you within the next 2 hours.(非常抱歉耽误了,我马上去查,两个小时后给你回电话)

Get back to someone

To talk to someone or call them again in order to give them information that you could’t give them earlier.

I’m sorry I don’t have that information right now, but I will get back to you by the end of the day. Would that be okay?

Did Simon contact you about the offer? No, He said he’d get back to me today, but I still haven’t heard from him.

Come up出乎意料的发生----当我们想要取消某事 但不想给出理由时 可用

To happen, usually unexpectedly

Eg:

A lot of problems came up in the first week of the project, but now things are running more smoothly.(顺利)

I’m sorry, but something has just come up and I need to deal with it immediately.

deal with sth 处理,做某事,特指解决问题

To take action to do sth, especially to solve a problem

Eg:

I had to deal with a lot of customer complaints(投诉) last week.

We’ve had some technical problems with the new websites, but we’re dealing with them.

Set up:组织或计划某事

To organise or plan sth such as a meeting or event

Eg:

Can you set up a meeting for Thursday afternoon please?

We’ve set up a series of workshops to train staff on how to use the new software.

Run out of sth

To use all of sth—to have nothing left

Eg:

The printer has run out of ink. Can you change the cartridge please?

We only have a couple of weeks(几周) to finish the project. We’re running out of time!

figure sth out弄明白某事,经过深思熟虑找到解决问题的办法

to finally understand sth or find the solution to a problem after a lot of thought

Eg:

It took me a few days to figure out how to use the new software.

He’s checked the machine 3 times, but he still can’t figure out why it’s not working.

Get through

If you get through a task or an amount of work, you complete it

Eg:

[会议前经常听到]We have a lot of get through today, so let’s begin.我们今天有很多事情要做,所以我们开始。

[会议结束后经常听到]thanks for a great meeting everybody! We got through a lot of important business today.感谢各位,我们今天处理了很多重要的事情。

Knuckle down:专注于要完成的工作、任务,并努力工作

To focus and work hard on the task or job to be done

Eg:

We’ll have to really knuckle down if we want to finish the project on schedule.我们想要按时完成这个项目就必须全力以赴。

The start of the month was hard, but we knuckled down and hit our sales targets in the end.月初很难,但我们努力工作最终实现了我们的销量目标。

go over:仔细检查或审查某事

To carefully check or review sth

Eg:

This proposal is very important so let’s go over it one more time.这个建议很重要,所以让我们再复习一遍。

bring up 开始讨论一个话题

To start discussing a topic

Eg:

Go on 意味着又开始说话了

to start talking again after a pause or interruption.

Eg:

Break sth down 把某事分成更小的事,以便于更容易去做和理解

To separate sth into smaller parts so that it’s easier to do or understand

Eg:

The process sounds quite complex. Could you break it down for us please?这个过程听起来很复杂,你可以详细说明一下吗?

There’s a lot of involved in this task, so it might be better to break it down into smaller tasks.

Point sth out 告诉某人一些他们不知道或者没有想过的事情

To tell someone sth that they did not already know or had not thought about

Eg:

That’s completely new to me! Thanks for points it out.对来说是全新的,谢谢你指出来。

I’d just like to point out that these results are for last year, not this year.我想指出,这些结果是去年的,不是今年的。

think sth through 仔细考虑做某事可能产生的结果

to carefully think about the possible results of doing sth

Eg:

I’m afraid that wasn’t our best decision. We just didn’t think it through.恐怕这不是最好的决定,我们只是没想清楚。

I’m sorry, but I don’t think this plan will work. You and your team need to think it though again.抱歉,我不认为这个计划对你有用,你的团队需要再考虑一下。
