IPO-bound Airbnb hits a home run
① Airbnb Inc. has delivered strong first quarter earnings in the run-up to its stock market flotation.
② The home rental company clocked $9.4 billion in total booking value and had $3.5 billion in cash on its balance sheet as of March 31, The Wall Street Journal reported citing people familiar with the matter.
③ Founded by Brian Chesky and Joe Gebbia in 2008, Airbnb is privately valued at $31 billion.
④ The online marketplace is counting on its 31% year-on-year growth in the first quarter to reel in more investors. To its credit, Airbnb has managed to keep its expenditures under control in the said quarter.
⑤ Airbnb is busy laying the groundwork for getting listed in the first half of 2020. Nevertheless, it’s in two minds whether to pursue a traditional IPO or go for a direct listing, the source said.
⑥ The San Francisco-based company is keeping a close watch on the stock market and macroeconomic conditions. However, the state of play is far from inspiring.
⑦ Coworking company WeWork, which is readying an IPO next month, posted sizeable losses of late, while ride-sharing firm Uber, which went public this May, sparked investor concerns after its stock took a nosedive.
