A colleague in our department who works as a network administrator next to my position in the open office was asked to be laid off last December. But he hasn't left yet. Maybe something has been changed in our company since then, his new supervisor asked him to stay and explained the reason today, but he didn't tell me why.
He said he didn't want to stay here because his heart was hurt now, and he couldn't see the good prospects in the future. You know, we are maintaining an old system, and a new team is developing a new system to replace ours, maybe after a few years, the old system will be abandoned, including us who are related to the old system.
I thought that would be reasonable, and our importance would become less and less. Furthermore, because of something like the discrimination against older employees in the general situation, I have no better way than to stay here. What I can do now is to try hard to learn more skills before the date of my dismissal, and the first skill is English, I think.
