Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God. 

a. promise 应许    e.g Give me your promise.

b. purify  净化，使纯净  e.g. The water is purified through strict process.

c. contaminate  污染，弄脏 (pollute) e.g. This factory contaminates/pollutes the surrounding environment.

d. perfect  使完美  There is no perfect in the world, so it is unrealistic to pursuing perfect.

e. holiness 圣洁   e.g. Holiness is a requirement for a Christian.

f. reverence  尊敬 敬畏  e.g. Our reverence for God calls us living a religious(虔诚的) life.

But since you excel in everything, in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in you---see that you also excel in this grace of giving. （8：7）

既然你们在信心、口才、知识、万分的热忱，以及我们对你们的爱心上，都胜人一筹，那么，当在这慈善的事上也要胜人一筹。

a.  excel  （to do something very well, or much better) 超过，擅长 e.g. You boast only for your excelling at dancing, oh 

b.  earnestness 热忱  e.g. Paul preached gospel with earnestness.

c.  kindle 点燃；激起   e.g. His words kindled our confidence.
