Can you identify which of them lives in the flat shown above?

1.¿Mi casa? Pues, normal: tiene una cocina, un cuarto de baño, un salón, un comedor y tres dormitorios.

2.Vivo en un piso de tres habitaciones, con cocina, salón, comedor, dos baños y una terraza muy grande.

Answer：Person 2 lives here. This person says she has una terraza muy grande, dos baños.

3.24 Talking about rooms and houses

Different words for rooms

The wordshabitaciónandcuartoare used in a general sense to refer to any room in the house, but they can also mean ‘bedroom’, for which the precise word isdormitorioin Spain,piezain parts of Latin America, andrecámarain Mexico.

Sometimes English words are used to refer to rooms in a house; for example,el livingin South America forel salónorla sala de estar.Bañois also a common abbreviation forcuarto de baño(bathroom).

Adjectives to describe a home

Adjectives in Spanish normally follow the noun that they describe. As you know, they also agree with the noun in gender and number.

Singular              un piso pequeño             una casa antigua

Plural               unos pisos pequeños        unas casas antiguas

3.27 Intensifiers

Using intensifiers 强调

You can use words such as muy, bastante or un poco in front of adjectives to qualify their meaning and give a more precise description. Such words are called ‘intensifiers’.

El baño es muy pequeño.  The bathroom is very small.

El piso tiene dos dormitorios bastante grandes.  The flat has two fairly big bedrooms.

La cocina es un poco fría.  The kitchen is a bit cold.

Note that the structure no+ verb +nada+ adjective is also used. not at all

La casa de mis papás no es nada ruidosa.    My parents’ house isn’t at all noisy.
