归园田居
Returning to Pastoral Life

少无适俗韵，
性本爱丘山。
Since youth, I’ve been at odds with worldly ways;
My nature loves hills and mountains.
误落尘网中，
一去三十年。
By mistake, I fell into the dusty net—
Trapped for thirteen years away.
羁鸟恋旧林，
池鱼思故渊。
A caged bird longs for its old woods;
A pond fish dreams of its deep stream.
开荒南野际，
守拙归园田。
I clear wilds at the southern edge,
Keeping my simple ways, back to fields.
方宅十余亩，
草屋八九间。
My homestead sprawls two acres of ground;
Thatched roof covers eight or nine rooms.
榆柳荫后檐，
桃李罗堂前。
Elms and willows shade the back eaves;
Peach and plum trees grace the front yard.
暧暧远人村，
依依墟里烟。
Dimly seen is a distant village;
Softly floating, smoke from hearths
狗吠深巷中，
鸡鸣桑树颠。
A dog barks deep in the winding lane;
A cock crows atop the mulberry tree.
户庭无尘杂，
虚室有余闲。
No dust or turmoil in my front yard;
Empty rooms hold space and leisure.
久在樊笼里，
复得返自然。
Too long I lived inside a cage—
Now I return to Nature’s ways.

守拙：不随波逐流，固守节操
方宅：宅地方园
暧暧：昏暗，模糊
依依：轻柔而缓慢地飘升

尘杂：尘俗杂事
虚室：空室
余闲：余暇
返自然：归耕园田
