Now I stared at this sudden apparition with my eyes fairly starting out of my head in astonishment .Remember ,I had crashed in the desert a thousand miles from any inhabited region .And yet my little man seemed neither to be straying uncertainly among the sands, nor to be fainting from fatigue ,or hunger ,or thirst , or fear .Nothing about him gave any suggestion of a child lost in the middle of the desert ,a thousand miles from any human habitation .when at last I was able to speak ,I said to him:
此刻我注视着突然出现的幻影，惊讶的眼睛都要掉了下来。请记住，我是在距离居民区千里之外的沙漠中。但是我的小人儿看起来既不像是在沙漠中迷路，也不像是像疲乏的将要晕厥，或者饥饿、口渴、害怕，他怎么看都不像是一个在人类活动地区千里之外的沙漠中走失的孩子。最后，我终于能够开口说话，我对他说：
“But…what are you doing here?”
“可是……你在这里做什么？”
And in answer he repeated , very slowly ,as if he were speaking of a matter of great consequence:
“If you please…draw me a sheep…”
他非常郑重的好像是在说一个很重要的事情回答道：
“是否可以请你……帮我画一只羊……”
When a mystery is too overpowering ,one dare not disobey .Absurd as it might seem to me .a thousand miles from any human habitation and in danger of death ,I took out of my pocket a sheet of paper and my fountain pen .But then I remembered how my studied had been concentrated on geography ,history ,arithmetic ,and grammar ,and I told the little chap(a little crossly ,too)that I did not know how to draw .He answered me:
遇到如此神秘的事情，谁都不敢不服从，即便它对我来说有些荒唐，即便我在居民区千里之外，随时都有死亡的危险。我从口袋里拿出了纸和钢笔，但是随后 我想起，我只学习过地理、历史、算数和语法，我有点为难地告诉这个小家伙我不知道怎么画画，他回答道：
“That doesn’t matter .Draw me a sheep…”
“没关系，给我画一只羊……”
