C40092 Day05-Texas blackouts raise climate warning

It is not surprising that Texas was hit by extreme winter weather in 2021 because a warning had already been given to the electric-grid operators of this state ten years ago. Lack of preparation such as complete electricity infrastructure and enough online power plants, the fallout of the disaster led to a large-scale blackout, including frozen equipment, iced natural gas wells and disrupted water supply and fuel supply. Texas’ failure indicates that the previous experience for combating climate changes is not suitable now. In terms of the essence of this storm, global warming plays an important role. On the other hand, extreme weather cases make it more complicated to match the electricity supply with demand. In addition, climate problems also affect the world from other aspects except the electric grid and cost a large amount of money. In the future, the climate-relevant problems will be harder to deal with, so communities should adopt a new way of thinking and make full preparations in fighting climate change.
