I have known The Moon and Sixpence for many years but until last month I eventually read it. I have say the language is not very elusive, but there are still some places that I don't understand. As far as I am concerned there are three part of this novel, the protagonist Charles Strickland in London as a stockbroker, an destitute artist in Paris, his life in Tahiti. After read this book, I have the same views with the majority that the moon represents the dream and sixpence represents the reality. For me, the most impressive is the courage of Strickland who gave up all things he had to pursue what he really fond of and didn't care about anything like food, cloth, house but his paintings. There are a large number of individuals who have dreams but just very few insist. People are always defeated by the reality or divergent reasons. I suppose that is why this novel has been popular for many years. Multitudes of people have dreams in their heart but they fail and maybe they can find console in this novel.
A simple review of The Moon and Sixpence
