In many countries, prison is the most common solution to crime problems .Some people believe that better education will be a more effective solution .

To what extent do you agree or disagree？

Give your own opinion .

With the incidence of crime hovering at high levels ,many citizens have become disturbed and alarmed . Sending those criminals to prisons is well advised to tackle this troublesome social problem conventionally worldwide . While, as for me, education may be a more effective way to help the government to address the root causes of crime.

In the first place ,there is no evidence showing a direct link between the imprisonment of criminals and the decline of crime rate .On the contrary , after being isolated in prison for some time, some prisoners are more likely to re-offend due to lack of essential knowledge and  life skills ,which indicates the failure of the very intention of imprisonment .

Besides ,it costs nations large sums of revenue to establish and run jails.In this case ,this definitely creates a great financial burden for the authority .In comparison with sending the wrongdoers to jails , providing them with opportunities to become literate and increase their employability seems to be more economical and surely sensible.As a consequence,nurturing them has an inherent advantage of alleviating the pressure of the local and national government ,which can generate far-reaching effect positively on criminals themselves as well as the society as a whole .

Lastly , education is a practice embodying humanism(体现人文精神的一种做法） .It gives the offenders a chance to correct their misconduct and turn over a new leaf(翻开新的一页） . This is particularly true for those who just go astray unintentionally .Many of them can re-enter society and become law-abidying citizens ,thus being reformed  into contributing members of society .

Given the factors given above , putting criminals to prisons may serve as a deterrent rather than a solution to the problem .Instead , having them receive education are thereby be more useful in the long run .
