1、A general habit of optimism in one person could make them intolerant of a colleague who's constantly pessimistic - not that that justifies treating them badly, of course.(C12 Test2 Part4第12句)
not that,并不是说,并非,用来引出否定从句。除了跟读的这句,还比如:
Not that I don't want to help, I'm just too busy.
另外就是justifiy这个词,表示证明。。。正当,正确;还用在文字排版时,表示把每行对齐。
2、Some conflicts arise when people are more interested in promoting themselves and their team than in the company as a whole. (C12 Test2 Part4第13句)
再重温一下arise与arouse,很多人把这两个词搞混,最重要的原因时以外arouse是arise 的过去式,其实不是,arouse是独立的单词,表示激起,引发的意思,而arise是自然出现、涌现、发生;其过去式是arose。
arise是不及物动词,只能说something arise;而arouse是及物动词,it arouse my interest...
3、These conflicts are called 'structural', and could come about, for example, when a sales team believes they are the only people in the business who do any useful work and look down on behind-the-scenes administrators.(C12 Test2 Part4第14句)
瞧不起,看不起,最简单的说法,就是look down on
behind-the-scenes, 就是幕后或者后台的意思,behind-the-scenes staff members.
4、For the company, if no effort is made to deal with conflict, it can spiral out of control, and even lead to the breakdown of the business.(C12 Test2 Part4第16句)
spiral这个词既可以做名称,也可以做形容词和动词,都表示一种螺旋上市的状态,引申为事物的渐进式发展。
spiral out of control, 表示渐渐地失去控制。
