Jennie
Jennie
Jennie
Jennie
Mac”
Mac

In May of 2012, I was living in California and had just been booked for my first official destination wedding as a second shooter in Essex, MA.
I flew into Boston with my friend Jeannie, who was the wedding's primary photographer and we got right into scouting the venue.
On our way to the rehearsal dinner, Jeannie made mention of a yacht club. "What yacht club?" I asked, feeling bewildered. "The one we're photographing the rehearsal dinner at, silly!" she replied. I remember looking down at my attire and feeling a wave of anxiety wash over me. I was sporting old ragged jeans, a purple sweater that kept falling off of my shoulders, band-aids wrapped over 4 different fingers, and a pair of Vans that looked as if I had been wading around in a swamp all day.
For the first 2 hours of the rehearsal dinner, I focused on shooting candid photos that allowed me to hide behind large potted plants, doors, pillars, waiters...etc. At some point during that time, I took the first photo I've ever taken of my now husband slamming down a whiskey sour.
Once dinner started, I realized with a sinking feeling that the bride and groom had not made seating accommodations for me. Luckily Jeannie stole somebody's chair and pulled it up to her table for me.
While seated, I was trying to break open a piece of bread but it was a little more difficult then anticipated. I attempted to instead bite it in half and ended up exploding bread crumbs all over the table. Jeannie exploded into laughter. That's when I noticed the man sitting next to Jeannie, who was also laughing but more so with me, not at me. I caught his eye, and he quickly said, "What are your names again? I replied, "This is Jeannie, like in a bottle, and I'm Dannee, like the mother of dragons." He smiled and responded, "I'm Mac."
I flew home the next day and had a new friend request on Facebook. Mac and I ended up messaging non stop for a week or so. Messages turned to texts and then texts turned into handwritten letters for about 3 months while Mac left to work at a summer camp in Upstate New York.
On our first phone call after 3 months of letters, I blurted out that I loved him. We were married less than a year later."

Now!!
