Barbie appeared in 1959. "Barbie's mother" is Ruth Mosko Handler, whose creation was inspired by the doll played by her daughter Barbara. Barbie is a doll specially designed for women, including pilots, astronauts, stars, teachers and other images. She is different from Lily, who originally wore exposed to meet male fantasies, but to meet the ideal image of little girls growing up.
Barbies are slender, elegant, proficient in everything, perfect, and live in a happy Barbie paradise. In this paradise, Barbies can be pilots, astronauts, presidents, workers, or practitioners of any profession. But after entering the real world, she found the cruel truth and experienced the difficult situation of women under the patrilineal society. People who knew that those who were fresh and flesh should have their own thoughts, imperfections, uncontrollable, and "self". Later, Barbies and real-life girls saved Barbie Paradise, making Barbies realize that really beautiful girls should not be bound by the word "perfect".
Because people are perfect, and because of imperfection, people are called people. Women are also human beings and should also be allowed to be "imperfect". Born as a woman can't be a reason for us to be discriminated against, tall, fat and thin can't be a reason for us to be ridiculed, let alone look like a reason for us to be criticized.
Finally, the reconciliation between Ken and Barbie also means that women's pursuit of equality does not mean that they want to build a world of female superiority and men.
In the movie, I noticed a few details.
I. Barbie's heel
Barbie dolls are designed with high heels, symbolizing the image of women inherent in secular minds. High heels are almost recognized as exclusive to women, representing the charm of women.
After awakening in the film, Barbie changed from high heels to flat feet. When she walked in high heels again, she found it difficult to move forward, felt painful, and sighed that she didn't want to wear high heels. Nevertheless, she still chose high heels in the two options of wearing Birken shoes or high heels. Doesn't it mean that women are domesticated by the aesthetics inherent in the patrilineal society?
Scientific research shows that when wearing flat shoes, the curvature of the lumbar spine is only about 30 degrees, but wearing high heels will increase to more than 40 degrees. The larger the curvature, the more it gives people the "S" curve of straightening the chest and lifting buttocks, and when walking, the greater the twist of the waist and buttocks. As a result, the high heels are attached to a lot of thoughtful x. Fantasy is also regarded as a symbol of feminine charm, and it has won the title of "beautiful torture tool" for a series of diseases such as sprained ankle, blisters, and toe rollover.
Finally, Barbie came to the real world and put on flat shoes, which was completely different from her initial choice. It also showed the real awakening of her consciousness, focusing more on herself, and was no longer bound by male aesthetics under the patrilineal society.
In fact, "beauty" is not one.
With an established standard, everyone can be beautiful, and everyone has their own unique charm. We can change ourselves in order to become better, but we can't cater to the loss of self by others.
II. The existence of Allen
In Barbie Paradise, there is a unique Allen. Unlike others, he can get along well with Barbies and is the only man who is willing to help Barbies after the fall of Barbieland.
I think he is actually a small number of men in the male group who are truly gender-sensitive and have taken practical actions to fight for equal rights for women. They are clearly aware of the difficult situation of women under the patrilineal society and are willing to lend a helping hand. But such Allen has only one of the many Kens, which also means that in real society, there are only a small number of men who are truly gender-equal and willing to reach out to fight for equal rights for women.
Allen's existence made me realize that with the progress of the times, men are gradually awakening, and the group he represents gives feminists hope to live in harmony with the male group on the pursuit of equality between men and women (my opinion only).
After all, human beings are composed of men and women, and society and the world still need to cooperate with men and women to develop better.
III. The Existence of Barbie Paradise
Barbie Paradise is an exclusive fantasy world created by the senior management of Mattel Toys. It is dominated by Barbies and willing to exist as a secondary. Judging from Ken's ending that he exists because of Barbies and is in the shadow of Barbies, I dare to speculate that he is indeed a doll created by the merchant to meet the love needs of the majority of women.
Therefore, in Barbie Paradise, Kens are centered on Barbies, obedient to their orders, which means that women are superior to men. This may also be one of the reasons why he came to the real world and was moved to tears when he came to see such a tall male status under the patrilineal society.
In addition, although the Barbies in Barbie Paradise have been successfully rescued, it is only a fantasy world after all. Women in the real world are still in a difficult situation, still facing x.s.r. There is still a long way to go to solve problems such as problem, occupational discrimination, men's gaze at the normalization, and being regarded as a reproductive machine.
IV. At the end, the senior management of Mattel can seek more benefits because of Barbie's diversified image and promised Barbie's changes.
Although this detail is broadcast as a joke, it is not difficult to see that the Barbies are still their profitable items in the eyes of Mattel's executives. Barbies' efforts are not worth mentioning in his eyes. He does not attach importance to Barbies fighting for women's rights and does not regard them as equal to themselves from beginning to end.
Women's pursuit of equal rights under the patrilineal society is premised that they do not touch the core interests of man. It is for this reason that Barbie Paradise is allowed to exist by the male executives of Mattel. After all, it can bring benefits to themselves.
V. Reconciliation with Barbie
At the end, Barbies won the victory. Ken reacted with regret and cried loudly and slapped himself in the face. Although I think one of them
Part of the reason is that he uses this to win sympathy, but he should also have the lost despair of returning to his former subordinate position.
Therefore, Barbie told him that he didn't need to be anyone's shadow, and he didn't exist for anyone. He is Ken, Ken is him, he is himself, a unique individual, he is on an equal footing with Barbies, and he is the same person in the world. At the end of the film, the topic of equality is sublimated to the pursuit of self-pursuit. We should not restrain others too much, or care too much about other people's opinions, but focus on ourselves, reduce internal consumption, improve ourselves, and enrich our lives.
Some comments on the Internet believe that the film "Barbie" will intensify the antagonism between men and women, and some M bloggers regard it as a work that divides the world people, but I think it is completely different from the actual situation and alarmist.
Barbie was born for women. "Barbie" is written for feminism. The idea expressed is not to guide women to be hostile to men, but to awaken women who are bound by religious society, see the importance of self-worth, and no longer blindly lose themselves. At the same time, it also shows the normality of patrilineal society in a dreamy manner, guiding men to self-reflection. Judging from the tone of the film, the whole process is also a gentle, cheerful, pleasant and harmonious atmosphere, and the men and women are not regarded as opposites.
Women's pursuit of equality does not mean that they want to trample men under their feet. What we want is equality of career opportunities, what we want is respect from the bottom of our hearts, what we want is freedom to dress, what we want is that women's health is also valued, we want to refuse sanitary napkins shame, we want x.s.r to get due punishment, and we want to be discriminated against no matter whether tall or short, fat
It can be applied to both men and women on appeal.
The times are progressing. Some people always say that the status of women has improved a lot in the past, thinking that we are not satisfied. But to see how low the starting point of women is, in ancient times, women could not be equated with the "human" species. However, what we want and pursue is real equality with men, because only in that way can women experience what it feels like to be a real person, and can truly understand what equality is equality between men and women and equality for all, rather than the urgency of women in the patriarchal society. You have to make concessions to women after resisting.
