Psychology.
In this course, I learned the basic concept of psychology, the psychology schools, and their developing history. Besides, I also joined some psychological experiments such as an IQ test, 11 daydreaming state observation, hypnosis, etc.
The event that psychologist Wundt established the world’s first psychology laboratory at the University of Leicester has been credited as the sign of the birth of psychology. After that, many psychologists and schools emerged along with a bunch number of theories.
The representative schools include Structuralist Psychology (Germany Wundt - which studies the structure of consciousness, emphasizing introspective methods); Functionalist Psychology (USA James/ Dewey - the study of conscious function "stream of consciousness”), Behaviorist Psychology (USA Watson/Skinner - to study of conditioning reflection), Gestalt psychology (Germany — experience of consciousness), Psychoanalytic school( Austria Freud - unconscious phenomena, abnormal human behavior), Humanistic Psychology (American Maslow/Rogers - Focusing on the uniqueness of the human being, emphasizing the social characteristics of people), and Cognitive Psychology (Switzerland/USA Piaget/Neisser - Cognition)
There are a few parts content were impressed me most. The 4 different states of consciousness, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, Ebbinghaus’s forgetting curve, and (Piaget’s 4 stages of cognitive development theory) how significant it is to keep individual mental health.
The 4 different states of consciousness are controllable state, automated state, Daydream state, and sleep state.
Maslow's hierarchy of needs is a motivational theory in psychology comprising a five-tier model of human needs. From the bottom layer to the top layer, the needs are: physiological (food and clothing), safety (job security), love and belonging needs (friendship), esteem, and self-actualization. Needs in the lower layer must be satisfied before individuals can attend to needs higher up.
Ebbinghaus’s forgetting curve is a visual representation of the way that learned information fades over time.
This curve indicates that reviewing and refreshing informants regularly will halt the Forgetting curve. Although forgetting starts again after each review session, it’s slower than before. The gaps between review sessions can be longer as time goes on. It suggests a strategy to do the reviewing after the original study. This strategy will help to stretch recall and strengthen the memories encode in our brain.
Psychology is a science about the lifetime development of individuals, and there are different characteristics of psychological development at different stages. What should be noticed here is psychological development does not follow with physical maturity but is a continuous process from individual birth to adulthood to old age.
Cognitive Psychologist Piagets proposed that there are 4 stages of cognitive development in children: aged 0-2; aged 2-7; aged 7-11; after the age of 12.
During the first stage of cognitive development, kids acquire knowledge through sensory experiences and manipulating objects. They interact with their environment and continually make new discoveries about how the world works.
In the second stage, kids learn through pretend play but still struggle with logic and taking the point of other people’s views. They also often struggle with understanding the concepts of constancy.
In the 3td stage, Kids become much better at using logic, and better at thinking about how other people might view a situation.
In the 4th stage, children and young adults become capable of seeing multiple potential solutions to problems and think more scientifically about the world around them.
The ability to think about abstract ideas and situations is the key feature of the stage of cognitive development.
Education
In this course, I learned the occurrence and development of education, the categories of education theories, the schools of teaching theories, and some practical theories about curriculum, lesson plans, lectures display, etc.
There are a few hypotheses about the occurrence of education including biological origin theory, psychological origin theory, and labor origin theory.
The beginning of education in western history can be traced back to the well-known educators: Bacon and Comenius, Bacon proposed the term“pedagogy” and Comenius published the book named The Great Pedagogy in 1632 can be noted as the start of Education development. In China, the Records of Education written around the late warring state has been credited as the first book devoted to educational issues. Nowadays, educational theories and teaching theories have gained profound development.
The educational theories can be divided into 4 categories, they are Educational Independence Theory ( Cai Yuanpei advocated that education should be separated from political parties and churches, and demanded that the cause of education be completely handed over to educators), All-Able to Be Educated Theory (Elvetius believes that the product of knowledge education and environment, human character depends on the social environment and political system. Negate the role of genetic factors.), Human Capital Theory, and Labor Market Theory. And the schools of teaching theories emerged along with the development of psychology, they are Behaviorist Teaching Theory (Behaviorist Psychology,Watson, Skinner), Cognitive Teaching Theory ( Cognitive Psychology, Piagets ), and Humanistic Teaching Theory ( Humanistic Psychology, Maslow, Rogers).

My thesis is about the comparison of two literature images. There are Hamlet and Jia Bayu. Hamlet is from Shakespeare's tragedy Hamlet, and Jia Bayu is from one of the classic novels The Red Chamber written by Cao Xueqin in the Qing Dynasty.
Both images have the common feature -delay. My thesis was intended to compare their delayed behaviors in various aspects including psychology angle, religion angle, social developing angle, and authors’ individual experience reflection.
It’s an infighting discovery that the two images were created under totally different backgrounds carrying many common features.
