第二集——Part 2：Transition words

连接词的作用是，连接上一句与下一句之间、上一段与下一段之间的逻辑关系。

那么，你会用吗？

**Function 1. Addition (表示附加信息的) **

连接词：Additionally, In addition, Also, Besides, etc.

举例：We duplicated all the records. In addition, each record was scanned.

**Function 2. Similarity (表示比较关系的) **

连接词：Likewise, Similarly, Not only...but (also), etc.

举例：Smith found fewer native birds in the city (2009). Similarly, Jensen has noted a decline in wildlife in all urban areas (2012).

**Function 3. Opposition (表示转折关系的) **

连接词：However, Yet, But, Though, Even though, On the contrary, Nevertheless, Despite that； In spite of, etc.

举例：Smith found fewer native birds in the city (2009). Nevertheless, most studies show that populations have remained stable on average.

**Function 4. Contrast (表示对比信息的) **

连接词：However, Conversely, By contrast, On one hand..., On the other hand, etc.

举例：On one hand, the study was praised for its elegant design. On the other hand, its results have been questioned.

**Function 5. Concession (表示让步信息的) **

连接词：Yet, However, Still, Of course, etc.

举例：The design of this study is elegant and innovative. Still, the results it has yielded are questionable.

**Function 6. Clarification (表示进一步解释说明的) **

连接词：In other words, To put it differently, That is, etc.

举例：The design of this study is elegant. That is, its approach to the research question is simple yet innovative.

**Function 7. Emphasis (表示强调关系的) **

连接词：Indeed, In fact, Above all, Furthermore, Moreover, Clearly, Especially, Particularly, In reality, Certainly, etc.

举例：Despite drawing significant funding from the city, the company consistently ran at a loss. Clearly, the problem ran deeper than difficulties with marketing.

**Function 8. Exemplification (表示例举意思的) **

连接词：For example, Thus, For instance, etc.

举例：Students employed by their supervisors have reported dissatisfaction with the arrangement. For instance, many worry that the work will interfere with their own research.

**Function 9. Generalization (表示归纳总结意思的) **

连接词：As a rule, In general, Generally, Usually, On average, For the most part, etc.

举例：Responses to stressful situations vary greatly. For the most part, however, stress tends to compromise critical skills.

**Function 10. Summation/Restatement (表示总结/再次声明的) **

连接词：To summarize, In sum, That is to say, In short, etc.

举例：The opposition parties were concerned about the bill's partisan authorship, its ratification behind closed doors, and its questionable effectiveness. In short, they are demanding that the government revisit the bill before it becomes law.

**Function 11. Causation/Consequence (表示因果关系的) **

连接词：Thus, So, As a result, By consequence, Consequently, For this reason, Therefore, Accordingly, etc.

举例：Nanotechnologies are offering radically new solutions to old problems. Therefore, many industries are interested in funding research.

**Function 12. Sequence (表示顺序信息的) **

连接词：Subsequently, Then, Next, Later, Earlier, First..., Second..., Finally, Previously, Eventually, Simultaneously, Afterwards, Ultimate, Originally, etc.

举例：We read all the proposals. Next, we ranked them.
