  • chipped:

  • pudding:
    pudding.jpeg

The giant took a gulp of tea and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand.

  • gulp:
a large amount of something that you swallow quickly, or the action of swallowing
    gulp of
He took a huge gulp of brandy.
She gulped down her breakfast and ran for the bus.
这里gulp作动词时,意思:to swallow large quantities of food or drink quickly 大口吞咽 ,快速吞下
    所以我们在这里总结一下迄今见过的狼吞虎咽:pig out = wolf = gobble down = gulp down,另外补充bolt down也是一样的意思
  1. shrink:
to move back and away from something, especially because you are frightened 〔尤指因恐惧而〕退缩,畏缩
    quail:
to be afraid and show it by shaking a little bit or moving back slightly SYN shrink

‘Sorry?’ barked Hagrid, turning to stare at the Dursleys, who shrank back into the shadows.

A braver man than Vernon Dursley would have quailed under the furious look Hagrid now gave him; when Hagrid spoke, his every syllable trembled with rage.

to bend low and move back because you are frightened 〔由于恐惧而〕蜷缩;退缩,畏缩

  1. bark, growl, thunder
  2. leap:

jerk sb awake总让我想起来老师姐姐讲的wake sb with a start

He reached over the back of the sofa, jerked the gun out of Uncle Vernon’s hands, bent it into a knot as easily as if it had been made of rubber, and threw it into a corner of the room.
