In 2016, the number of inbound tourists reached 138 million, an increase of 3.8% over the same period of the previous year. The number of inbound tourists according to the mode of entry is 3.4% for ships, 16.4% for airplanes, 0.8% for trains, 21.9% for cars, and 57.5% for walking.

In 2016, international tourism revenue reached US$120 billion, an increase of 5.6% over the same period of the previous year.
