Merkel was born in Hamburg,West Germany, in 1954. Her father, Hoster Kasner was an offical in the Lutheran Church. He was called "the red minister" at that time for the in usual decision he had made--he moved to German Democracy Republic when many people tried their best to flee to Wester German.

As the oldest one of her family the daughter of a Protestant Minister, Merkel could have more priviledges and responsibilites. Merkel was also very good at her subject.
