我们界定的英语“零基础”为：就算一篇简易英语，他们的“阅读”也要全部翻译成中文才能勉强算是读懂，而且觉得就是这样“英译汉式阅读”已经觉得很有收获了的学习者。这样的“零基础”可考虑暂时绕道。
言归正传。有人说：每天坚持阅读一篇短文，英语水平绝对提上去。
那么，你相信“每天坚持阅读一篇短文，英语水平绝对提上去”吗?
一个人学习英语的过程中，能“坚持每天阅读一篇短文”，这的确是一种难能可贵的精神，也是一种宝贵的学习习惯。首先必须值得肯定，“点赞”。
现但是，问题还是来了：你相信“坚持阅读”就一定和“英语水平的提高”之间有着必然的因果关系吗?
其实，这里涉及一个对于英语“阅读”二字，大家可能没意识到的问题：英语阅读，读不是问题，怎么读才是。
对于英语“中高级阶段”来说英语“阅读”分为：
1.英译汉式阅读(说是“读”英语，实际是“变相”读中文了)。
2.英语理解英语式阅读(把英语“留在”英语原语内，用同义词句替换原句理解方式阅读，阅读即“使用英语”)。
只有坚持训练出第2种阅读能力，你的“每天坚持阅读一篇短文”才会真正和“英语水平绝对提上去”挂上钩，形成必然因果关系。
至于第一点，“阅读”和“提高英语水平”之间不存在必然的因果关系，或者是“事倍功半”之功。

有一次我从底特律飞往旧金山。飞机在某段飞行中颠簸的特别严重。乘务长为了安抚乘客便拿起机场的麦克风唱了几首歌，你知道怎么了。陈可爱死了，我们忙着唱歌拍手而无暇注意飞机外的雷雨。
这是你“习惯”的英语阅读吗?全程英译汉(至少60%以上)。
你觉得用这种阅读，“每天坚持阅读一篇短文，英语水平绝对提上去”吗?
你这是“赤裸裸”的“读”英语，“用”中文，你的整个阅读过程有“用”英语吗?英语就是“学以致用”的，你体现在哪里?

6.读became bumpy，“说”英语：
When we say the road or the flight gets bumpy, we mean the road or flight has lots of ups and downs.It is not smooth.
blablabla，以此类推，直至整个阅读结束。
这才是“每天坚持阅读一篇短文，英语水平绝对提上去”的“正解”。
