If you can't be a pine on the top of the hill,

Be a scrub in the valley — but be

Be a bush if you can't be a tree.

If you can't be a muskie then just be a bass —

But the liveliest bass in the lake!

We can't all be captains, we've got to be crew,

道格拉斯·马拉赫 (Douglas Malloch，1877年5月5日-1938年7月2日) 是一位美国诗人，短篇小说家和芝加哥一家当地报社的副主编。1877年，马罗奇出生在美国密歇根州的马斯基根，这个地方是当时有名的全国伐木业中心。他在伐木工人中享有一定的名声，被称为“伐木工的诗人”。代表作有《Be the Best of Whatever You Are》《It's Fine Today》《Echoes》《The Road of Masonry》《Father's Lodge》《The Little Lodge Of Long Ago》《Building》《The Masonry Of Spring》《Make Me Mellow》等。
