“defy”是动词，它常见的意思是“挑战”“反抗”，不过我们对它的一些常见搭配用法并不熟悉。根据上面的英英释义，我们可以了解它后面经常可以接description 等词，这时 defy 的意思可以引申理解为“难以”“无法”。
这种用法在外刊中很常见，当我们想表示 be hard to，be impossible to，beyond 时，很多时候都可以用 defy 替换。我们通过一些例句掌握它。
