Brief Thought after Watching Avatar: The Way of Water
It has been thirteen years since we went to cinema to watch Avatarin 2010. At that time, I was pregnant with Brian. I was deeply impressed by the movie. Although Brian was inside my tummy, I could feel his excitement as he kept kicking during the movie .
When Avatar 2 came out in the cinema, I could not wait to watch it with the kids. In Avatar 1, Neytiri and Jake set up a family and livedhappily in Pandora. Similarly,Kaixin and I hadjust settled downtogether, after being apart from each other in different cities for 7 years. The first new member of our family was about to be born, when we watched the movie. Our family and Jake’s family were about to enter a new stage in 2020.
Thirteen years later, Kaixin and I have three boys, while Jake and Neytiri have five children.Maybe because of the similarity of our two families, I liked Avatar 2 so much especially their motto-- ‘the family always sticks together’ . [Shao, it is only normal to use “, when we are quoting direct speech, for example, Shao told me that, “we are going to the cinema tomorrow”]
In the movie, when Jake was chased by Captain Mick Scoresby, no matter how dangerous the situation , Jake always protected his family as best he could. The family had bondedclosely. Jake’s oldest son Neteyam was the pride of the family,as he was very brave and mature. He always put himself in others’shoes and cared about the others in his family. Unfortunately,he was shot in the final battle with Mick, when he tried to protect his brother and friends. When his younger brother Lo'ak had toface the death of his old brother, he suddenlygrew up. Although he was told by his father to stay in the place where Neteyam’s body lay, when Jake had to leave briefly to save the other children and his wife, Lo’ak still bravely followed his dad. In the end, he found his exhausted dad and saved him out from the sinking ship.
When they were all saved from the battle, Lo’ak said that, what drove him so briefly to jeopardize himself tosave the lives of his loved ones was his belief that that family should always stick together.
I was moved by the belief of the family and believe it is the same withmy family. Unfortunately, Kaixin is still apart from the rest of the family due to his work situation. He is like Jake and does whatever he can to protect our family. We all hope one day we will be together.
