We had a really fun workout today with Matt, from The Open Matt. The theme is doing workouts in the Five Elements style: wood, water, fire, metal, earth.
Wood style: think plants, stems, yoga. When you stretch up while standing, root to the ground and stretch to the sky.
Water style: continuous and gentle. Think Tai Chi.
Fire style: short, quick, impulsive. Quick short punches, rapid mountain climber steps.
Metal style: robot like accurate. Make each move precisely what they are.
Earth style: down to earth, slow, hold. Take push-ups for example, try go as slow as possible when you lower down (like 10 seconds), hold 10 second, then take another 10 seconds to get back up.
Matt said, if you only do one or two of them at a time, such as fire and earth, you may feel exhausted at the end of the workout. Try to balance it using other styles. This is a good way to take care of your body.
