第105期 The basic building block of organisms. 07/08/20

First of all, they are all Eukaryotic cells because both have a nucleus, cell membrane and membrane-bound organelles, including Golgi body, Mitochondria, and ribosomes for the production of protein. Also, they all have cytoskeleton and cytoplasm, which supports their body and shape. Most importantly, they are all ALIVE

On the other hand, the plant cells have a cell wall, which animal cells don’t have. Plant cells also contain Chloroplasts for photosynthesis and a large central vacuole in comparison to animal cells’ small vacuoles. Animal cells contain lysosomes that plant cells do not have.

For plant cells, the cell wall allows them to keep the rigid and strong structure so they won’t burst in the hypotonic environment; instead, the central vacuole will store water, the cell wall stays strong!!! For the animal cells, they don’t have cell walls so they will increase their volume and eventually they will burst.

When there is a lack of water, the plant cells lose water from the central vacuole and cytoplasm until their cell membrane separates from the cell wall. This is called plasmolysis. When the animal cell is lacking water, the cell shrinks and flaccid and eventually it will be dead dry if no enough water is needed for the reaction to occur.
