"Barn Conversion"

The house was a barn. In the designing of conversion, the joists, the glaze, and the bands stayed and stand out.

The house still sits on several joists linking the basement and supporting the first floor. The separation thus created permits a space, saving the dwelling from “just another house on the ground” and works with the white staircases. Such a structure consistently recalls the former barn and, with the pointed roof design, strikes a steady feature clumsiness-free.

The dark brown color of the barn’s exterior was retained and glazed with more density but in slightly different shades. The tune of the house exterior is thus devised to form a cohesion between the warm yellow light from the inside and the deep reddish brown of the outside walls, an especially delightful view at dusk.

Third, the multi-layered bands used to hang-dry the grains encompass the house, distancing the inside a bit further and adding a tad more intimacy to people living in there. The house front is an exception, with only the upper half decorated with the bands. The lower half opens a double door for the main entrance.
