rather
eg. This is a rather large cake.
very good, rather good,等等,在表达上没有太大区别。
eg. That's rather an inconvenience to me
he is quite a man。 如果说,he is rather a man。
eg. I rather go there in summer, not in winter
eg. she walked home rather than wait for the bus that never come.
eg. Blessed are those who courted death,Who dared to rebel, rather than serve.
eg. I perfer working with people rather than with a computer.
eg. Why there is much stress in life? It is because we focus too much on improving our lifestyle rather than our life.
6. rather...than,宁可。。而不。。。
eg. I'd rather have the green one than the blue one
eg. I'd rather be a free man in my grave than living as a puppet or a slave.
更多名言中的例句;
I'd rather die a free man than live a slave.
Being true to your vision means fitting your life into your dreams rather than trying fit your dreams into your life.
Meaning is something to discover rather than to invent.

Blessed are those who struggle. Oppression is worse than the grave. Better to die for a noble cause, Than to live and die a slave. Blessed are those who courted death. Who offered their lives to give, Who dared to rebel, rather than serve, To die so that we might live.
如果你完全掌握了rather的用法,请尝试翻译一下莎士比亚的这句话吧;
My tongue will tell the anger of my heart, Or else my heart, concealing it, will break. And rather than it shall, I will be free Even to the uttermost, as I please, in words.
