One of the most beneficial teachings of Stoicism is to take the focus out of the external world, and into your mind. This is because you can only control your thoughts and actions. And although sometimes we may feel otherwise, all the other things in the external world are out of our control.
“You have power over your mind — not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.” ― Marcus Aurelius
To learn to control our minds, we can start by adapting this mindset where we do not let the outside storms lead the calm waters of our minds into chaos. Our perceptions make our reality, and thus by not over-worrying our minds on external factors, we can have enough mental energy to focus on our inner dynamics and work on them.
“Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.” — Marcus Aurelius
