Be salt and be light
7th July 2018
“You’re the salt of the world. If a piece of salt is no longer salty, what is its value? It may be abadoned just like a stone.
You’re the light of the world. Put the light on the top of the hill, and it shall not be hidden.”
These two instructions, be salt and be light, are what Lord Jesus taught us in Bible. What do they mean? Be salt, what is salt? Firstly, salt itself can make the food more tastely. We would say, the dish is not salty when it lacks salt. Secondly, salt can bring out the original taste of food. With salt, the tomato can be more juicy, the meat can be more tender, and the melon can be fresher.
What is light? Firstly, light can disspel darkness. Wherever there is light, there is no darkness. Secondly, light can transmit further when it is at a higher place.
No words can fully express how much I was moved when hearing these words. In eastern culture, we’re taught that no one can be important. Or I was taught I had no positive meanings coming to the world. I just consumed my parents hard-working earning. But in Christian culture, Lord Jesus told us we can make a difference. We can make the life better.
I have been trying to lead a positive life since then. I’ve been trying to be salt, making other people’s life more beautiful and happier because of me. I am also trying to be a more interesting person. This is salt.
I also try to spread positive power. And if I think something is good, I would be glad to share them to my friends. And I also try to bring good parts to other people’s life. This is light.
Be salt and be light. It makes me life different and makes a positive Paul out of a pessimistic Paul
