Overall, the graph shows the average global sea level increases smoothly over the nine years. In 1997, the sea level around 4.8 millimetres. It increase slightly in 1998 to about 4.9 millimetres, and then go up to 5 millmetres in 1999. It climbed steadily for three years to approximately 18 millimetres in 2002.
