Today I choose 《I can trick a tiger》 from the Oxford Reading Tree series, which is the first English picture book series I share it with my son Henry.
Henry loves tiger very much, cuz he was born in the tiger year. When I took out this book, he was very excited:“Mom, look, Floppy, and a tiger!”Then I said:”Guess what will happen between Floppy and the tiger.” Henry answered:”I guess that he tiger is hungry. He wants to eat Floppy.” And he asked:”Mom, what is trick” I explained:”Trick means to make a joke or cheat to someone. Can you trick a tiger?” “No. No. No.” Henry shook his head and said. Then I encouraged him to guess how floppy trick a tiger.
I showed the first page to Henry, and asked him: ”What have you seen in the picture? Who are they? Where are they? What are doing. ” He looked for a while and said:” I see a
tiger-shaped birthday cake on the table, a
boyis wearing a birthday hat. Biff dresses
up as a monkey, Chip dresses up as a tiger, while Kipper dresses up as clown.” Then I pump him :”Where is Floppy? What is it doing?” Henry replied:” Floppy is sleeping. Maybe it has a dream about the forest.” ”What can you find in the forest?” Henry said:” I see Floppy is surrounded by animals, such as tiger, dog, monkey, snake, bee, and butterfly.” After that, I read the word with Henry.
Then I turn to the next page, Floppy was caught by a tiger. The tiger jumped out and said:” Got you!” The animals around Floppy were so scared and ran away. I invited Henry to find out all the animals. “Tiger, monkey, snake, bee, frog.” How could Floppy do? Can he survive from the tiger’s paws. Floppy said:” I can trick a tiger.”Could Floppy really trick a tiger? Henry got a lot of ideas, such as cutting the tiger’s beard, drawing a funny face, and so on.
“Look out! There’s a bee on your nose.” Said Floppy. “Oh no!” The tiger let Floppy go. I asked Henry :”Can you find the bee? Where is it?” Henry replied quickly :” Here, the bee is flying away. It is not no the tiger’s nose.” “Look at this page. How do the animals look? Are they scared or happy?” “Oh, the animals are laughing. Floppy cheat the tiger.”
Then, jumped out a Crocodile, slid out a snake, jumped out a rabbit, they were all tricked by Floppy in the same way. Floppy was so happy.
But finally, a bee landed on Floppy’s nose. Floppy was scared, too.
It has so much fun to share this story with Henry. He repeated the words of the animals and Floppy again and again, and laughed long.
