Imaginehow will you treat a child whose father was sentenced to imprisonment? The factis that offenders’ families keep carrying the stigma of criminals themselvesduring their lives. Criminals’ families are a vulnerable group who are ignoredand hurt by society. Labeling theory suggests that offenders’ family has ahigher risk of committing crimes under labels and stigmas. The criminal justicesystem explains the existence of inequality and the reproduction of criminalbehaviors. This paper demonstrates how labeling influences criminals’ familiesand how incarceration exposures lead to opposite results and cause alienationswithin the society. Thus, people should stop labeling, and certain changes arerequired for the criminal justice system.
