• A file is a container used to store papers, letters, and other documents in an ordered way, especially in an office.

We can use some of these nouns as verbs with little or no change:

• to video = to record a program on video
• to photocopy = to use a photocopier
• to highlight = to emphasize some words by a highlighter pen
• to file = to put things in a file

Classroom activities

• Rub out mistakes in your notebook. (= erase mistakes / remove them using a rubber or eraser)
• Plug in the laptop. (= put the plug in the socket or outlet)
• Turn up the sound (= increase the volume) if the students can't hear it.
• Rub the writings off the board. (= remove writing from the board)
